The eastern Minnesota town of Stillwater extends a warm welcome to you and your family as you settle into your new home. Our community of about 16,000 residents is a place that will fit your lifestyle whether you enjoy the hustle and bustle of the large city or the quiet serenity of a small town. And since it is part of the Twin Cities Metropolitan area, you have everything you need without going far from home.
The parks in Stillwater are ideal places for an afternoon of fun or for just enjoying the surrounding nature. Lily Lake Park, located at 1208 South Greeley Street, has sports fields, sports courts, picnic shelters and playground equipment so the entire family can enjoy a day here. There is even an indoor ice arena for ice skating and more. Lowell Park is located at 201 Water Street along the waterfront in downtown Stillwater. This park has beautiful flower beds and landscaping, picnic tables, a gazebo, fishing areas and breathtaking views of the St. Croix River. Other parks in the community include Northland Park, Pioneer Park and Teddy Bear Park, just to name a few. The Stillwater Police Department strives to make the community a safer place to live each day. Located at 216 North 4th Street, the department works with individuals to be their "eyes and ears" in an effort to reduce crime. The police department offers gun safety classes for a minimal fee and you can learn more about signing up at (651) 351-4900. As a service to the community, officers from the department will also check on your house while you are away on vacation. You can also join the Citizen's Academy which is a special program offered by the department to train ordinary citizens on crime prevention techniques, patrolling procedures, self defense tactics and more. For information regarding anything about the Stillwater Police Department, you can call Officer Wulfing at (651) 351-4918.
Stillwater wants to keep its residents informed about everything that is happening in the community. That is why the city publishes a newsletter each quarter with information regarding any special elections, improvement projects, winter reminders and more. Newsletters are available online at the city's website for a free download in a PDF. To get something in the newsletter or for more information about them, call the City Hall Administration Department at (651) 430-8800.
Disposing of trash and recyclables in Stillwater is simple. Once the haulers pick up the trash from your curb, it goes to the Resource Recovery Technologies facility in Newport. The solid waste is then turned into fuel that can be used at local power plants. Recyclables are picked up every other week and they must fit inside your recycling cart or else they will not get picked up. Your yard waste must be placed in plastic bags for pickup. For more information about specific ways to bundle your trash and more guidelines, call Waste Management at (952) 890-1100.
